Reading Prompt Recs: Books With Water on the Cover

Hey, Booknerd Backlist Challenge readers! I can’t believe we are in the last TEN DAYS before the end of the year! This post is part of my series of reading prompt recommendations for those of us who are a teensy bit stumped on what to read. I’m sharing TBR suggestions for all of the prompts that I can (except for those like the “recommended by a friend” or “read during our Summer readathon”). Today’s list is all about books with water on the covers. So grab your notebook or reading tracker app and let’s get to it!

Guess what? The Booknerd Backlist Challenge is on Storygraph!

I’ve been looking for Goodreads alternatives lately (after finding out that Goodreads is owned by Amazon – yuck!) and I was so excited when I found out Storygraph fits that perfectly!

For those of you who don’t know, Storygraph was created by a software engineer – Nadia Odunayo – as a side project for tracking books. While it doesn’t have the strong community that Goodreads does (and maybe that’s a good thing if you’ve seen the way some people act), I’m enjoying tracking my reading.

AND … what’s even better is that I’ve added the 2024 Booknerd Backlist Reading Challenge to Storygraph!! So if you’re looking for a way to participate and don’t have a blog/social media, join us on Storygraph!

The Booknerd Lifestyle’s book recommendations with water on the covers

A few of the books that I’ve read (and recommend!) with watery covers are:

  • Maybe We Will, Maybe We Should, or Maybe We Won’t by Melissa Foster – The entire Silver Harbor series is set on an island so of course, there’s water on the cover. I loved each of these stories and seeing Abby, Cait, and Deirdra fall in love ❤️
  • Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney – Daisy Darker is a retelling of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and it’s perfect for spooky-suspense fans! I was hooked from page one and loved this book so much!
  • Stargate Atlantis: Rising by Sally Malcolm – For all the sci-fi fans out there, Rising is the first book in the Stargate Atlantis series and it follows the first episode of the show – where the city of Atlantis rises out of the ocean. It’s an epic episode and the book was just as entertaining.
  • The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – Most of you probably know who Percy Jackson is and The Lightning Thief is the first book in this wildly popular middle grade series. I loved the book (and had mixed feelings about the movie because of how they changed the ending – grrrrr!). Percy is the son of Poseidon so … hello, water!
  • Rain of Ash by Gwen Mitchell – This book is more of a fantasy one, with witches and adventure. I don’t remember a lot of it (it’s also on the re-read list as I practice mindful reading in 2024) but I did really enjoy it. I highly recommend the audiobook, as well!
  • Butterfly Sisters by Jenny Hale – This was one of the first books I read in 2022 and I loved it. Plus, this cover is gorgeous!

A few books that have water on the cover and are still on my TBR

In August, I linked up with Top Ten Tuesday to share 10 books from my TBR that have water on the covers. Of course, my TBR is ever-changing and that list has grown … just a teensy bit. Here are a few more gorgeous water cover books that I can’t wait to read.

Have you read any books that have water on the covers and should be on my TBR?

I am always looking for book recommendations so if you have any books that fit this prompt and you think should be added to my list, let me know in the comments!

Happy watery reading, xo!
